First visit? Stay in Downtown / Tejon Corridor.
It is the city’s best all-round first-visit base: the strongest walk-to-dinner and evening setting, a real hotel selection, the regional bus hub, and reasonable access by car or Route 3 to the west-side visitor areas. A car is still strongly recommended for the full Colorado Springs itinerary.
Avoid sleeping near Freeway-facing Downtown fringes and blocks around the Downtown Terminal, Briargate / North Academy hotel corridor, for a sightseeing-first trip, Knob Hill / KHUAD, as an overnight base. Listings may use a downtown label while placing guests away from Tejon’s restaurants and in less pleasant, more arterial-facing surroundings—especially at night.
