Marina Bay and the Civic District
Short stop · 1 day
The essential first-look Singapore: Gardens by the Bay, waterfront skyline, major museums and the city’s colonial civic core. It is polished and expensive, but the night walk here earns its place.
Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar
Short stop · 0.5–1 days
Come for temples, shophouses and some of the city’s strongest hawker eating at Maxwell and Chinatown Complex. Skip the souvenir-heavy bits of Pagoda Street and spend more time around Keong Saik and Tanjong Pagar.
Little India and Jalan Besar
Short stop · 0.5–1 days
Singapore at its most intense: temples, flower stalls, spice shops, Tekka Centre, prata and late-night eating. It is hot, noisy and unvarnished; do not reduce it to a quick photo stop.
Kampong Gelam, Bugis and Arab Street
Short stop · 0.5–1 days
The historic Malay-Muslim quarter combines Sultan Mosque, textile shops and serious Malay and Middle Eastern food with Bugis’s markets and museums. Haji Lane is worth a look, but it is too retail-led to be the whole visit.
Katong–Joo Chiat and the East Coast
Short stop · 1 day
Colorful Peranakan shophouses, laksa, kueh and a more residential version of Singapore than the downtown core. It is not the most transit-convenient area, which is precisely why it works best as a deliberate half-day or food-focused evening.
Singapore River, Clarke Quay and Tiong Bahru
Short stop · 0.5 days
Walk the former trading river from Boat Quay toward Robertson Quay, then switch to Tiong Bahru for Art Deco flats and a genuinely useful market meal. Clarke Quay is for drinks, not for an authentic neighborhood experience.
Orchard, Dempsey and the Botanic Gardens
Short stop · 0.5 days
Use this area for the Botanic Gardens and National Orchid Garden, then Dempsey if you want restaurants or galleries. Orchard itself is mostly interchangeable luxury retail unless shopping is a real priority.
Mandai and the Northern Reservoirs
Short stop · 1 day
The island’s green northern edge is anchored by Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise, River Wonders and Night Safari. Night Safari is the standout; treat Mandai as a separate half-day or evening, not something to bolt onto Marina Bay.
Sentosa
Base · 2 days
A compact resort island for beaches, Universal Studios and hotel downtime, reached easily from the main city. It is polished, pricey and manufactured, so adults with only four days should not treat it as mandatory.
Pulau Ubin and the Northeastern Island Edge
Short stop · 1 day
Take the boat from Changi Point for cycling, Chek Jawa wetlands and kampong remnants—the clearest break from Singapore’s curated downtown image. It is weather-sensitive and basic, but far more revealing than another mall attraction.
Sharp first visit
4 daysMarina Bay and the Civic District (1 day) → Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar (0.5 day) → Singapore River, Clarke Quay and Tiong Bahru (0.5 day) → Little India and Jalan Besar (0.5 day) → Kampong Gelam, Bugis and Arab Street (0.5 day) → Katong–Joo Chiat and the East Coast (1 day)
The right four-day introduction: skyline and museums first, then the food and heritage districts that make Singapore more than a polished stopover. Keep one MRT-connected hotel base; these are neighborhood days, not hotel-change territory.

6 daysMarina Bay and the Civic District (1 day) → Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar (0.5 day) → Singapore River, Clarke Quay and Tiong Bahru (0.5 day) → Little India and Jalan Besar (1 day) → Kampong Gelam, Bugis and Arab Street (1 day) → Katong–Joo Chiat and the East Coast (1 day) → Mandai and the Northern Reservoirs (1 day)
For travelers who want the essential city without racing through it. Mandai is the one deliberate longer transfer: give it its own day or evening rather than absurdly pairing it with Marina Bay.

7 daysMarina Bay and the Civic District (1 day) → Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar (1 day) → Little India and Jalan Besar (1 day) → Kampong Gelam, Bugis and Arab Street (1 day) → Katong–Joo Chiat and the East Coast (1 day) → Singapore River, Clarke Quay and Tiong Bahru (0.5 day) → Pulau Ubin and the Northeastern Island Edge (1 day) → Orchard, Dempsey and the Botanic Gardens (0.5 day)
A stronger second-visit route, or a first trip for people who care more about eating and urban texture than theme parks. Pulau Ubin provides the sharpest contrast to downtown, but it is weather-dependent; use Orchard and the Botanic Gardens as the sensible rain-buffer half-day.

This is the honest family version: give Mandai and Sentosa real time instead of treating them as add-ons. Sentosa can justify a resort stay, but otherwise remain in a central hotel and accept that Mandai is a cross-island outing, not a quick detour.
