This is the accessible core of the Andasibe rainforest experience and the region's most reliable place to see indri, Madagascar's largest lemur, in the wild. Take an early guided forest walk for the calls and wildlife, then use the afternoon for a nearby reserve rather than trying to rush through on a day trip from Antananarivo.
Pay park entry on arrival and hire the required local guide at the gate; arrive at opening in high season.

Mantadia is the wilder, more intact forest counterpart to Analamazaotra, with longer trails, excellent birding, chameleons and a better sense of being inside primary rainforest. It needs a vehicle and more time, so make it a dedicated half- or full-day outing rather than an add-on after a morning hike.
Entry and a guide can normally be arranged at the park, but pre-arrange transport from Andasibe because road conditions and vehicle availability are the limiting factors.

Madagascar's largest lake and its surrounding marshes offer a very different Alaotra-Mangoro experience from the eastern rainforest: rice country, fishing villages and wetland birdlife. This is also the landscape of the critically endangered Alaotra gentle lemur, so arrange a locally guided boat or marsh visit rather than simply viewing the water from town.
There is no single central ticket office; arrange a boat, community guide and current access conditions through accommodation or a local operator in advance.
This community-run forest beside Analamazaotra is a particularly good choice for close, unhurried lemur and frog viewing while directly supporting local conservation. It is smaller and easier-going than Mantadia, making it ideal for an afternoon or night walk after the main reserve.
Arrange a guide at the reserve; ask in advance about a night walk if that is a priority.

Zahamena protects one of the region's most remote rainforests, with waterfalls, dense forest and exceptional biodiversity for travelers prepared for rough access and basic logistics. It is a serious expedition-style addition, not an easy Andasibe day trip, and rewards overnight planning more than a quick checklist visit.
Arrange transport, guide, permits and any overnight arrangements well ahead through park authorities or a specialist operator; access can become difficult after heavy rain.
This research-focused protected forest near the Andasibe corridor is a quieter alternative for travelers who want endemic plants, reptiles and forest ecology without the concentration of visitors at Analamazaotra. Use it as a guided half-day complement, especially if you have more than one night in the area.
Contact the reserve or arrange through an Andasibe-based guide or lodge before going, as visits are not as plug-and-play as the national-park circuits.

A small local park rather than a reason to travel across the region, it can provide a low-key break if you are already nearby. Treat it as a short stop for local atmosphere, not a substitute for the rainforest reserves around Andasibe or the lake country.
