Do not come to Aihara expecting a food destination: the station area is quiet, residential and thin on late-night or visitor-oriented dining. For a proper meal, ride the JR Yokohama Line to Machida Station—West has the broadest restaurant and bar choice, while the East-side Nakamise lanes are the more characterful place for casual grazing; Minami-Machida is the easy but mall-led alternative for families and park shoppers.
Nakamise-style snack-and-small-shop grazing in Machida Station East: this compact former postwar-market street is the area’s best bet for older, informal food-street atmosphere. · Machida Station’s broad, everyday Japanese dining culture—casual restaurants, bars and department-store/retail-area meals rather than a single must-eat local specialty. · A meal tradition of eating around the station before or after rail travel: Machida is the practical dining hub on the Odakyu and JR interchange, while Aihara is best treated as a quiet sleep base. · Modern shopping-complex dining at Minami-Machida Grandberry Park, best paired with outlet shopping or park time rather than sought out for local character.
