Governor’s Harbour
Short stop · 1 day
The practical base for a first stay: groceries, restaurants, rental-car access, and enough old harbourfront character to break up beach days. Stay here or just outside it if you want easy drives north and south without changing hotels.
French Leave Beach and Banks Road
Base · 1–2 days
Central Eleuthera’s essential Atlantic-side beach zone, with long pale-pink sand and easy access from Governor’s Harbour. Come for serious beach time and sunrise walks, but judge swimming by the day’s surf rather than assuming calm water.
Savannah Sound and Ten Bay
Base · 0.5–2 days
The best calm-water counterpoint to the Atlantic coast. Ten Bay is the reliable choice for shallow wading, relaxed swimming, and low-effort family beach days when conditions cooperate.
Palmetto Point
Short stop · 1 day
A quiet, well-positioned settlement that works especially well for villa stays: close enough to Governor’s Harbour for supplies but less tied to its small-town bustle. It is about location and access to both coasts, not sightseeing.
Double Bay and Windermere Coast
Short stop · 1 day
Go for one of the region’s best long beach walks and some of its most striking pink-sand scenery. This is a privacy-and-landscape stop rather than a serviced beach day; facilities are scarce and Atlantic surf can be forceful.
Gregory Town and the Pineapple Belt
Base · 1–2 days
The place to see what makes Eleuthera more than a beach destination: sugarloaf pineapple country, roadside fruit, and a small settlement with real local texture. It is worth the drive for produce and character, not for polished dining or shopping.
Surfer’s Beach and the Gregory Town Atlantic Coast
Short stop · 0.5 days
A rougher, wilder stretch of coast where the point is wave watching, surfing, and dramatic scenery rather than easy swimming. Treat the sea seriously and ask locally about conditions before entering.
Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve
Short stop · 0.5 days
A compact but worthwhile change of pace from the beach circuit, with coppice trails, mangrove boardwalks, birdlife, and useful interpretation of native and medicinal plants. Give it a cool morning rather than trying to make it an all-day outing.
James Cistern and Alabaster Bay
A small, low-key settlement that makes sense as a pause between Governor’s Harbour and Gregory Town. Stop to see a less visitor-facing side of the island, but do not build a full day around it without a specific beach or fishing plan.
Tarpum Bay
Short stop · 1 day
A sheltered fishing settlement with a slower, more traditional Out Island feel than the villa coast. Pair it with nearby beach time or a fish dinner; from Governor’s Harbour, it is best saved for a longer stay or a dedicated southbound day.
Beach-and-food long weekend
4 nightsGovernor’s Harbour (1 day) → French Leave Beach and Banks Road (1 day) → Savannah Sound and Ten Bay (1 day) → Gregory Town and the Pineapple Belt (1 day)
Stay near Governor’s Harbour throughout. This is the right short trip: one serious Atlantic beach day, one calm-water day, and one northbound drive for pineapple country. Skip Tarpum Bay rather than spending the whole weekend in the car.

7 nightsGovernor’s Harbour (1 day) → French Leave Beach and Banks Road (1.5 days) → Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve (0.5 day) → Savannah Sound and Ten Bay (1 day) → Double Bay and Windermere Coast (1 day) → Gregory Town and the Pineapple Belt (1 day) → Tarpum Bay (1 day)
Use Governor’s Harbour or Banks Road as one base and let weather decide which coast gets priority. It covers the essential beaches, adds the preserve and pineapple country, and gives Tarpum Bay a proper southbound day instead of an exhausted late-afternoon detour.

Split the stay between the Governor’s Harbour/Banks Road area and Savannah Sound or Tarpum Bay. The extra time is not for ticking off more sights; it lets you repeat the beach that has the better conditions, linger in the quieter south-central coast, and avoid turning every dinner into a long drive.

Built around the early-June Pineapple Festival, with Gregory Town given enough time for the event rather than treated as a quick roadside stop. Keep the day after the festival deliberately light, then use Ten Bay or Double Bay according to sea conditions.
