British Columbia: Vancouver, Whistler & the Islands
Rainforest, Pacific salmon, and a coastline where bears fish and orcas breach — Canada's west coast at its most wild and refined
- Duration
- 8 Days / 7 Nights
- Destinations
- Vancouver · Whistler · Tofino · Victoria
- Best season
- June – September
British Columbia is where the Pacific meets the Rockies by way of temperate rainforest — a province the size of France with more coastline than Italy, some of the world's best salmon fishing, and a food-and-wine scene anchored by Vancouver that has quietly become one of North America's best. This journey connects the city, the mountains, the surf coast, and the islands in a loop that shows BC's full range.
Day 1
Arrival in Vancouver
Private transfer from YVR Airport to Rosewood Hotel Georgia, an Art Deco landmark in downtown Vancouver — original terrazzo floors, a rooftop pool, and a location between Robson Street shopping and the waterfront. Evening: welcome dinner at Hawksworth Restaurant in the hotel — one of Vancouver's finest, where Chef Quinton Bennett's Pacific Northwest tasting menu features BC spot prawns, sablefish, and foraged mushrooms.
- Stay: Rosewood Hotel Georgia — Park-view suite
- Culinary: Hawksworth Pacific Northwest dinner
Day 2
Vancouver: Markets, Parks & Dim Sum
Morning at Granville Island Public Market — the best food market in western Canada, with local berries, smoked salmon, artisan cheese, and craft distilleries. Walk the seawall through False Creek to Stanley Park — 1,000 acres of temperate rainforest in the city center, with totem poles at Brockton Point and views of the North Shore mountains across the harbor. Lunch: dim sum in Richmond (Vancouver's Cantonese suburb), where the quality rivals Hong Kong — har gow, siu mai, char siu bao, and turnip cake at a table-service restaurant selected by your guide. Afternoon: the Museum of Anthropology at UBC (one of the world's finest collections of Northwest Coast Indigenous art, housed in Arthur Erickson's glass-and-concrete Great Hall). Evening at leisure — your Byline concierge recommends a craft cocktail bar in Gastown or dinner on Main Street.
- Cultural: Granville Island, Stanley Park, Museum of Anthropology
- Culinary: Dim sum in Richmond, Granville Island market
Day 3
Vancouver to Whistler: Sea — to — Sky Highway
Drive the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler (2 hours) — one of North America's most beautiful drives, hugging Howe Sound's fjord-like coast before climbing through granite gorges and old-growth forest. Stop at Shannon Falls (335 meters, the third-highest waterfall in BC) and the Sea to Sky Gondola for views across the Sound. Arrive in Whistler Village. Check into Nita Lake Lodge, a boutique lakeside hotel just south of the village — canoe dock, spa, and mountain views. Afternoon: ride the Peak 2 Peak Gondola between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains (the longest unsupported span in the world, with glass-bottom cabins). Evening: dinner at Araxi, Whistler's best restaurant — BC oysters, risotto with seasonal mushrooms, and a BC Okanagan Pinot Noir.
- Stay: Nita Lake Lodge — Lake-view room
- Scenic: Sea-to-Sky Highway, Peak 2 Peak Gondola
- Culinary: Araxi dinner
Day 4
Whistler: Trails & Bears
Morning guided bear-watching tour in the Whistler backcountry — black bears are common in summer, and your guide knows the meadows and berry patches where they feed. Afternoon: choose between a mountain bike ride on Whistler's legendary trails (guided, all levels); a guided hike to Wedgemount Lake or Joffre Lakes (turquoise glacial lakes accessible by moderate day hike); or a relaxed afternoon at the spa and lake. Evening at leisure in Whistler Village.
- Wildlife: Guided bear-watching
- Optional: Mountain biking, Joffre Lakes hike
Day 5
Whistler to Tofino: Rainforest Coast
Fly or drive to Vancouver, then short flight to Tofino (45 minutes to Tofino/Long Beach Airport). Tofino is BC's surf-and-rainforest town on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island — ancient temperate rainforest, endless sandy beaches, and Pacific storms that draw storm-watchers in winter. Check into Wickaninnish Inn, the oceanfront lodge on Chesterman Beach where every room faces the Pacific — the sound of waves through your open window and the fireplace in your room. Afternoon: beach walk on Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park. Evening: dinner at The Pointe at the Wick — 240-degree ocean views, Pacific halibut, Dungeness crab, and storm-watching (literal, not metaphorical, in autumn).
- Stay: Wickaninnish Inn — Ocean-view room, Chesterman Beach
- Culinary: The Pointe Pacific seafood dinner
Day 6
Tofino: Surf, Rainforest & Hot Springs
Morning surf lesson on Long Beach (Tofino is Canada's surf capital — wetsuits provided, waves are gentle for beginners). Afternoon: guided rainforest walk through the ancient cedars of the Rainforest Trail in Pacific Rim National Park — trees over 800 years old, draped in moss, with a cathedral-quiet atmosphere. Or: boat trip to Hot Springs Cove — a natural hot spring cascading into the ocean, accessible only by boat or floatplane (90 minutes each way, but genuinely once-in-a-lifetime). Evening at leisure.
- Scenic: Tofino surfing, Pacific Rim rainforest walk
- Optional: Hot Springs Cove boat trip
Day 7
Tofino to Victoria: Island Capital
Fly to Victoria (35 minutes). Private transfer to The Magnolia Hotel & Spa, a boutique hotel in the Inner Harbour district — walking distance to the Parliament buildings, the Royal BC Museum, and the Empress Hotel's lobby. Afternoon: guided walk through Victoria's Inner Harbour, Fisherman's Wharf (floating homes, fish-and-chips from Barb's, and harbor seals), and the Butchart Gardens (55 acres of sunken gardens, Japanese gardens, and rose gardens that are genuinely spectacular). Evening: farewell dinner at Brasserie L'École, a French-bistro institution — steak frites, duck confit, and a BC wine from the Cowichan Valley.
- Stay: The Magnolia Hotel — Harbour-view room
- Cultural: Butchart Gardens, Inner Harbour walk
- Culinary: Brasserie L'École farewell dinner
